West County Winds’ 50 woodwind, brass, and percussion players come together from locales around the San Francisco Bay Area to share their musical passion with local communities. The group’s diverse collection of players covers numerous professions and training backgrounds, with ages ranging from twenty-somethings to octogenarians. A core group of players have been with the organization since its inception in 1985, while new members come and go as their busy lives permit. The organic nature of the membership, exciting repertoire and strong direction have kept WCW flourishing through the seasons.
This mix of talented musicians, from doctors to teachers, lawyers, students and multi-instrumental solo artists, makes for a singular experience for both its members and its audience. Many of these musicians further their contribution to our communities by playing in other local ensembles and running private studios. United in their desire to make music together and foster growth of the arts, West County Winds’ members bring a distinct zeal for the extraordinary.
