about our MEMBers
West County Winds’ 50 woodwind, brass, and percussion players come together from locales around the San Francisco Bay Area to share their musical passion with local communities. The group’s diverse collection of players covers numerous professions and training backgrounds, with ages ranging from twenty-somethings to octogenarians. A core group of players have been with the organization since its inception in 1985, while new members come and go as their busy lives permit. The organic nature of the membership, exciting repertoire and strong direction have kept WCW flourishing through the seasons.
Membership
New members of West County Winds are added based on the ensemble’s changing instrumentation needs, as determined by our Music Director and Conductor. All prospective members need to be able to play at a college or advanced high school level of proficiency.
For Fall 2024, the group has open spots in the following sections:
Clarinet
Euphonium
Trombone

Percussion
The ensemble rehearses on Mondays from 7:30pm-9:30pm from September to May, at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, CA.
West County Winds has a dues-based membership of $120/year, and is also sponsored by the music department at Contra Costa College. Each member is required to enroll at the college and register for a zero credit, zero cost ensemble course each semester.
